  1. Freedom is not free. American troops — primarily those in Iraq and Afghanistan — are at war with terrorists to ensure that the U.S. remains a free nation, and to prevent a terrorist attack similar to the one we experienced on September 11, 2001. Especially on Memorial Day, we need to show our respect and gratefulness to our servicemembers — many of whom have sacrificed their lives — because without their efforts, we could lose our freedom.
